Secret Corner Assembly presents: Joshua Burnside

Joshua Burnside is one of the most exciting voices in modern folk music. The Northern Irish musician combines traditional sounds with electronic experiments, developing an idiosyncratic, multi-layered sound language. His pieces often seem like collages: organically grown, atmospherically dense and full of subtle breaks.

Influenced by his origins between the rugged landscape around Strangford Lough and the streets of East Belfast, Burnside's music repeatedly deals with questions of identity, memory and social change. In doing so, he manages the feat of subtly interweaving the personal and the political.

His debut Ephrata already showed this particular signature, while Into The Depths Of Hell explored the darker side of his sound. With Teeth Of Time, Burnside now finds a balance between intimacy and sonic expansiveness - and finally confirms his place in a new generation of folk artists who are leaving genre boundaries behind.
