The Art of the Duo #14

The duo is an intimate, fragile and exciting form of musical interplay. In the concert series "The Art of the Duo", the art of the duo will be presented in various combinations. Temporary sound experiments, dialogs, dialogues, parallel developments or even three-dimensional sound formations are created.

Guest in #14: Joss Turnbbull

Joss Turnbull took private lessons in Iranian percussion with Mohammad Reza Mortazavi and Madjid Khaladj even before his studies. The tombak goblet drum has been the focus of his artistic work ever since. In addition to studying in Istanbul, he learned further facets and playing techniques in Syria, Lebanon and Iran. Today, he alienates the sound of his instruments through the use of preparation and electronics and develops his own instrumental language. He released his first solo album "Isturnbull" in 2013 and has performed as a soloist and with international music projects in Japan and the USA. He received a prize from the GBG Mannheim, a scholarship from the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg and the Kathrin Prize from the Jazzinstitut Darmstadt 2019.

Johannes has a preference for playing with drummers and is happy to welcome a like-minded person in electronics and preparations in Joss Turnbull.
