The DSO's Ferenc Fricsay Academy has been committed to training young musicians since 1992.
Anyone leaving a music academy today is highly trained, technically brilliant, highly motivated and artistically curious. Good prerequisites for orchestral musicians - but not enough. In addition to mastery of the instrument, the job profile also requires the ability to become part of a group, to contribute one's individual musicality to the collective of the orchestra and to prepare for new repertoire in an optimal and time-efficient manner. After passing the audition, ten young musicians have the opportunity to prove themselves in practice for two years and to get to know and help shape the work of a professional orchestra: in radio and CD recordings, in symphony and chamber concerts.
Three DSO colleagues, violinist Jakob Encke, cellist Leslie Riva-Ruppert and double bassist Matthias Hendel, are on hand to offer advice and support to the academy students in all aspects of everyday orchestral life. The academy members take part in workshops to prepare for auditions, are taught by the section leaders and also devote themselves intensively to chamber music - the best school for sensitive musical communication. In June, they will perform together with members of the DSO in a chamber concert
