KantTheaterBerlin: Brief an den Vater von Franz Kafka

“Of all poets, Kafka is the greatest expert on power.” This statement by Elias Canetti describes, in a sense, the burning core of Franz Kafka’s work, from which all other themes in his life can be derived. The confrontation with his father is a life-and-death duel; the son actually stands no chance in this struggle— he is too weak, too small, too flat-chested; but since he throws himself into this battle like David against Goliath—with all his cleverness, his keen insight, his tenacity, and his grotesque humor—he may, after all, have something like a sliver of a chance.

Anette Daugardt and Uwe Neumann portray this gripping struggle in their own adaptation, exploring it from various perspectives and alternating roles.

Since 2003, the KantTheaterBerlin has been staging contemporary works and classics in its own modernized adaptations in an intimate theater format.
