Katarina Kudelova - Burning Bright in the Forest of the Night

During Berlin Art Week 2023, BBA Gallery presents Slovak artist Katarina Kudelova's first solo exhibition, "Burning Bright in the Forest of the Night." The exhibition by the winner of the 2022 BBA Artist Prize includes a 5-meter site-specific installation made of fireworks, a video recording of her award-winning installation from the 2022 BBA Artist Prize, and other ceramic sculptures and tapestries made of animal feathers.

The Slovakian hinterland, where the artist grew up in a family of forestry engineers, provides the idyllic backdrop for her oeuvre and her sensitivity to the natural world. The current works are a critique of the contemporary dialogue between man and nature and man's role in their irretrievable destruction. Kudelova's explosive practice and her use of firecrackers and fuse, addresses transience, mortality, predetermined life cycles, climate and forest fires.
