Current & new trends and ideas meet the classics from 30 years of the black scene (e.g. Esterhofen, Pulverturm, ...) and other current & past cult locations with changing DJs, special guests, visual art installations & live acts. We see ourselves as an open, interactive concept - by and for scene people - in which creative forces work together and new ideas and visions are realized!

The acts:

Reflecting the bleakness of modern life with their melancholic melodies and horror-inspired lyrics and imagery, Canadian cold-wave duo TRAITRS have established themselves as one of the fastest rising stars of the goth and post-punk scene. Formed in Toronto, Canada in late 2015, singer/guitarist Shawn Tucker and synthesizer player Sean-Patrick Nolan came together through their shared love of new wave, hardcore and punk rock, arthouse horror films and dark electronic music. Even before they played their first live show, TRAITRS released their debut LP "Rites and Ritual" in April 2016 on the boutique label Pleasence Records from Toronto. With their critically acclaimed follow-up album " Butcher's Coin" (Pleasence Records, Manic Depression Records, Alchera Visions) from 2018, the duo quickly gained attention thanks to songs such as "Thin Flesh", "The Lovely Wounded" and "The Suffering of Spiders". Before the pandemic, TRAITRS established themselves the old-fashioned way with relentless touring and dazzling live performances in 16 different countries, including showcases at Wave Gothik Treffen, Castle Party, Extramuralhas, Nocturnal Culture Night, Wavefest, Canadian Music Week and Pop! Montreal. Their breakneck touring schedule and work ethic caught the attention of Thomas Thyssen and Eric Burton of Schubert Music Publishing, and in October 2020 they announced TRAITRS as the first signing to their brand new record label, Freakwave Records. In November 2021, TRAITRS released the heartbreaking "Horses in the Abattoir", another critically acclaimed album that was named Sonic Seducer's Album of the Month and topped several year-end lists. TRAITRS spent most of 2022 supporting "She Past Away", "Lebanon Hannover" and "She Wants Revenge" across North America. TWIN NOIR, the artist duo...

... Cody Barcelona (guitar, electronics, vocals) and Ian Volt (bass, vocals) are the two artists who do not shy away from melodic or pop moments with their sometimes dark, sometimes satirical-dadaistic, but mostly technoid-monotonous sounds. "2 Punks and a Tape Machine" is not only their eleven-song debut, but also their credo.

TWIN NOIR, the sound....

... TWIN NOIR's sound is based on new wave and post-punk with technoid beats, driving bass and catchy melodies. Basslines and guitars from the punk and rock of the 70s to 90s meet music-historical pioneers such as "Kraftwerk" or "DAF", but the EBM and techno scenes can also be found in the soundscapes of TWIN NOIR.

With socially critical and satirical-dadaistic lyrics in German, which often make use of minimalism as a stylistic device, TWIN NOIR always manage to break through their often gloomy, destructive guise with optimism and euphoria. Cody Barcelona and Ian Volt are driven by a tape machine, a sampler and a theremin - all completely analog.

TWIN NOIR, the show....

...TWIN NOIR don't hesitate live. They hit the ground running and deliver their danceable sound, inspired by Berlin punk, clubs and variety shows, directly to the audience. The result: the basis for collective movement. "That's down to our driving drums," explains Cody Barcelona and adds: "Our drum machine keeps driving you on until you just dance." Live, TWIN NOIR can fully exploit the strengths of their instruments, appear spontaneous and yet leave nothing to chance. "Sharing this energy and performance with the audience is our thing."

Since their foundation in 2021/2022, TWIN NOIR can already look back on several milestones achieved. The godfather of punk, Iggy Pop himself, introduced the duo on his BBC Radio 6 show "Iggy Confidential" on July 23, 2023 and sent two tracks from their debut album over the airwaves. He played the songs "Destruction" and "Panic".

In April 2023, TWIN NOIR were presented by the European music initiative Liveeurope in their list of "50 Promising European Artists". Further highlights were support shows with "She pas away" and "Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft" (DAF / Robert Görl). TWIN NOIR have now played in 13 countries - and that's just the beginning. "We're working on tours in South America and the USA," the two artists hint.

TWIN NOIR, the story...

...TWIN NOIR's story begins with the respect and admiration the two musicians have for each other. Cody Barcelona and Ian Volt met again and again while touring the stages of the republic with different bands and got to know each other over 10 years in the live music scene. During the COVID lockdown in 2021, they met up for jams and TWIN NOIR was born. The duo cemented themselves at their first gigs and jams together in Berlin - including at Alexanderplatz and Oberbaumbrücke in Kreuzberg. When the second lockdown in Germany was just around the corner in 2021 and TWIN NOIR's first officially scheduled concerts were canceled, the two made the leap to Mexico without further ado and began working on their first album and touring there. This was followed by 15 concerts on Mexican soil and the first recordings for their debut album "2 Punks and a Tape Machine" in Mexico City. During this time, German filmmaker Florian Kehbel accompanied the musicians - the result was a 25-minute documentary called "TWIN NOIR - The movie". The film portrays the two artists and their creative phase in Mexico in magnificent images and can be viewed on YouTube.

Far away from Germany, Barcelona and Volt also learned a lot about the nature of their art. "We suddenly realized what makes us unique as a German band," says Volt. "We concentrated on working that out, developing it further and testing it in front of an international audience." Back in Europe, concerts in Germany, Portugal and England followed, as well as the completion of the debut album in Lisbon and Berlin.

TWIN NOIR, the album...

...In spring 2023, the TWIN NOIR debut album "2 Punks and a Tape Machine" was released on all digital platforms and is available as vinyl, cassette or CD digipack. TWIN NOIR address various topics in the album's lyrics. In lyrics such as "Panic in the open-plan office / food made of plastic / wind force 12" ("Panik") or "Morning sun and a coffee / you can count the dead in the newspaper" ("Analog"), TWIN NOIR deal progressively with social values. In the song "Paul war mal Punk" (Paul used to be a punk), a mixture of melancholy and humor is used to address the topic of age conservatism.

With " Wer will nochmal 18 sein? / Destruction", the duo invites listeners to take a very personal journey back in time to their wild teenage years. The atmospheric "Ich tanz die ganze Nacht allein" is reminiscent of cold, lonely club nights when people are just trying to escape their everyday lives.

With " Dolce Vita in Italia", the duo finally drifts musically and skillfully into the longings of 80s Italian pop culture, serving up the finest synthesizer pads and playing with driving disco influences.

Both lyrically and musically, the two thoroughbred musicians of TWIN NOIR have succeeded in creating a musically multi-layered and varied debut album with "2 Punks and a Tape Machine", which offers moments of thoughtfulness, inspiration and heaviness, but also invites you to dance, flow and fly.
