Australian prog metal band back in Germany in May with new album

Progressive music is often too cerebral and complex for many people. It is therefore not surprising that only a few bands manage to create a prog sound that is both challenging and intricate as well as catchy and easy to digest. The Australians Caligula's Horse are one such band, mastering the balancing act between sophisticated, twisted instrumentals and catchy choruses without making a single compromise. In their home country, the band from Brisbane have long since established themselves as one of the leaders of the progressive metal genre and are celebrated by rock and metal fans alike for their versatile sound. After international chart placements, several headlining tours in Australia, North and South America and Europe and appearances at scene festivals such as ProgPower (USA & Europe), Euroblast, Radar, ArcTanGent, Brutal Assault and many others, the unique sound of Caligula's Horse has long since reached the masses. Following on from two German concerts in summer 2023, Caligula's Horse will return for four club shows in May 2024 to present their new album "Charcoal Grace".

Founded in 2011 by Jim Grey and Sam Vallen as a studio project, the debut "Moments From Ephemeral City" was released in the same year and was quickly well received online. With an initial line-up and the release of the "Colossus" EP, Caligula 's Horse laid the foundations for the 2013 album "The Tide, The Thief & River's End", the band's first concept album. Caligula 's Horse subsequently toured in support of bands such as Mastodon, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Opeth, and were at times regarded as the Australian answer to the latter. With their signing to InsideOut and the 2015 album "Bloom" (#16 in the ARIA charts), Caligula' s Horse achieved their greatest success to date. The record presents a playful mix of smooth prog rock and modern progressive metal. The song "Marigold" now has over 5 million streams on Spotify and was awarded the "Queensland Heavy Music Award" in 2016. In 2017, the long-player "In Contact" was released, which impresses with its great versatility: whether spoken word interludes, a prog anthem ("Dream The Dead") or 15-minute prog hammer ("Graves")- the Australians succeed in every trick on "In Contact". "Rise Radiant" followed in 2019, revealing a balladic side between the stormy "Salt" with "Autumn" and a Djent-influenced, modern prog metal sound on "Slow Violence", which was celebrated internationally. At the end of January, Caligula's Horse released their sixth album "Charcoal Grace", delivering their most modern sound to date. With a crystal-clear production and the typically unconventional approach of the band, which fans like to call just C Horse, the single "The Stormchaser" is a convincing symbiosis of smooth pop, funk-rock guitars, intricate prog and a subtle metal note that provides depth in minor harmonies. The single " Golem" also shows how entertaining, uncomplicated and emotional prog metal can sound when Caligula's Horse are at work. With a focus on great melodies, a progressive mindset and catchy rhythms, the Australians have once again succeeded in creating a complex work of art that will challenge, enthral and ultimately inspire its audience at full length and in a live context.
