Single-session workshop – Creating patterns with colored clay
In this workshop, you’ll learn about the Nerikomi technique—a method from Japan that involves working with dyed clays. By layering, cutting, and reassembling differently colored clays, you’ll create unique patterns that are embedded directly within the material—not just on the surface. No prior experience is required.

Workshop: Nerikomi & Shaping (approx. 4 hours)
We’ll start by showing you the basics of the Nerikomi technique. You’ll learn how to dye clay with color pigments and how combining different colors can create vibrant patterns, lines, and marbled effects.

Afterward, you’ll continue working with the clay you’ve dyed yourself: We’ll cut, layer, and blend the different shades together to create unique patterns. In the process, you’ll get a feel for the creative process—because each piece takes on its own character as you work with it.

Under our guidance, you’ll use the resulting clay slabs or shapes to create your own objects, such as bowls, mugs, or small vessels. The patterns run throughout the entire clay and remain visible even after firing.

Once your pieces are dry, we’ll handle the firing and glazing for you in the studio.

Pickup
About 2–3 weeks after the workshop, your finished, fired, and glazed pieces will be ready for pickup.

All costs are included:
Clay, color pigments, glaze, bisque firing, and glaze firing are included in the price.

Note
Since we do a lot of hands-on work in the workshop, we recommend that you avoid having long fingernails—especially on your thumbs. This makes it easier to shape the clay and allows you to create more precise patterns.
