Discover Berlin – A Guided Tour of the New Mitte!
I’mMarkus, a true Berliner, born here in Mitte in 1968. I’ll take you on an exciting journey through time around the site of the formerTachelesand the newly designedForum on Museum Island.
This tour is the result of two years of research in archives, books, and conversations with eyewitnesses—and, not least, my own memories. I’ll bring alongunpublished photos and videosand sharesome gripping stories with you.
The history of the Tacheles building—now just one-tenth the size of the former Friedrichstraße Passage—dates back to 1908. Back then, one of the world’s most modern passage-style department stores was built here. We’ll trace the eventful history of this place, from the Imperial era to today’s“Fotografiska.”
Atthe Forum on Museum Island, we’ll continue with the history ofthe telegraph office,the postal depot,the telephone exchange, theGropius Ensemble, and much more. Architecturally and historically fascinating!
Afterward, we’ll wrap up the tour together inthe new beer garden at the Dieselhaus—here you can ask me questions or just keep the conversation going.
