Kino-Preview "Die Derbys" - HSV vs. FC St. Pauli

In February, NDR will release a three-part documentary series entitled "Die Derbys - die größten Fußballspiele der Welt" (The derbies - the biggest soccer matches in the world), which will focus on city duels from Glasgow, Buenos Aires and Hamburg. It is about the roots of derbies in the population, about pop culture and about history. What are the origins of old rivalries? What role do religion and politics play? On Thursday, January 30th, NDR will be hosting an exclusive cinema preview of the documentary at the Zeise Kino in Hamburg. The focus will be on the derby between HSV and FC St. Pauli. Tickets for the screening are not available for free sale and will be sold exclusively by lottery. If you would like to attend the event, you can take part in the lotteries at NDR.de/preview until January 22, 12:00 noon.

The rivalry between HSV and FC St. Pauli will be highlighted in the episode "Das Stadtduell in Hamburg": Pepperbags versus punks, elitist versus modest, conservative versus left-wing - the Hamburg derby has many headlines. The real enmity only developed in the 1980s. Sankt Pauli, until then still a district club, was promoted to the Bundesliga again and attracted an alternative left-wing crowd. A counter-design to the other fan curves in Germany's stadiums. This derby is a political one, but also the story of a sporting changing of the guard that is electrifying Hamburg more than ever. HSV legend Manni Kaltz, St. Pauli captain Jackson Irvine and well-known fans such as Olli Dittrich and King Boris talk about it.

The first episode of the series, "The Old Firm in Glasgow", deals with the most traditional derby in world soccer; Celtic versus Rangers. And the episode "The Superclásico in Buenos Aires" between River Plate and Boca Juniors explores the question of what makes this game so special - despite the violence in the past.
