*What a Laugh* is a journey back in time to the German comedy scene of the ’90s—told for the first time from a woman’s perspective. Maren Kroymann, Hella von Sinnen, Bettina Böttinger, Gaby Köster, and Esther Schweins look back on their work and a time when women on television were primarily side characters and served as punchlines. Their brilliant sense of humor remained underappreciated for a long time. Who laughs—and at whose expense? And what does being funny have to do with power and equality? We sure did laugh—or maybe not?

“Kino Weltsichten” is a collaboration between the Working Group of Dortmund Women’s Associations, theTurkish Film Days Dortmund, and the International Women’s Film Festival Dortmund+Cologne.
Understanding, openness, and connecting with people of different nationalities and backgrounds are the themes of the “Kino Weltsichten” film series. People with and without an international background, women with refugee experiences, their families, and anyone interested in outstanding, often rarely screened international films directed by women are cordially invited.
