Klassik Underground meets Sandtheater Leipzig

On June 16, 2026, KLASSIK underground meets the Sandtheater Leipzig - for a very special concert. Works by Tchaikovsky and Dvořák will be performed by musicians from the Gewandhaus Orchestra. The music will be accompanied by the live sand art of artist Alla Denisova, who will bring masterpieces by Van Gogh, Chagall and Dalí to life in the sand.

Under the direction of Dimitrij Sacharow, the Sandtheater Leipzig has been giving sand painting a new form of expression since 2009. With successful full-length shows in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt and many other cities, the sand artists have captured the hearts of audiences and sparked a new fascination for sand art. Sand painting thrives on the interplay of light, music and constantly changing images - almost like a hypnotizing dance of hands in the sand.

In this unique collaboration with KLASSIK underground, visual and musical art merge: the fascinating re-creation of Van Gogh, Chagall and Dalí's masterpieces in the sand meets the music of Tchaikovsky and Dvořák. Visual impressions played a central role for both composers - both Tchaikovsky's String Sextet in D minor Souvenir de Florence and Dvořák's String Quartet in F major The American were inspired by new surroundings and visual impressions.
