»Köln 75« – Interkulturkino (Open-Air)
In the organizer's words:
The captivating film “KÖLN 75” by Israeli-American director Ido Fluk tells a true story: Vera Brandes was 18 years old in 1975 when, with unwavering determination, she risked everything to make her big dream come true—bringing Keith Jarrett to Cologne for a concert. Nothing can stop her. Against the wishes of her ultra-conservative parents and at her own risk, she books the Cologne Opera House and persuades the jazz pianist—who was already very famous at the time but torn by an existential crisis—to participate. She overcomes every obstacle and achieves her goal: for one hour, shortly before midnight, Keith Jarrett celebrates the miracle of improvisation on a dilapidated piano in front of 1,400 spectators. With over 4 million copies sold, the recording becomes the most successful solo jazz album of all time and one of the most popular works of art of the 20th century: “The Köln Concert.”
Mala Emde plays Vera Brandes with captivating verve, alongside the outstanding German actors Ulrich Tukur, Alexander Scheer, Jördis Triebel, and Susanne Wolff, and American film star John Magaro as Keith Jarrett. The film celebrated its world premiere in February 2025 at the Berlinale in the Berlinale Special Gala section.
