Between contemporary embroidery, textile sculptures, political crochet and cuddly body extensions, Claudia A. Cruz, Rahel Jüngling, Malen Rodríguez Pájaro, Johanna Rafalski, Kira Häring and Emilia Sting critically examine textile techniques, expand classical handwork and make use of it in the context of their artistic works. The focus is on time, the tactile connection to the material and repetitive movements.

What does it mean to dedicate oneself to techniques that are limited in their speed in a capitalist and industrial age? Why do they choose precisely these incredibly time-consuming methods, which, stitch by stitch, stitch by stitch, result in an image, a form, a pattern?

With their works, the artists create a dialog between the past and the present, a remembrance and appreciation of old techniques that takes place in the present and offers a glimpse of a connection with the future. What can we learn from and with textiles?
