Love A

Love A is like that scene in a film noir where someone suddenly screams out of nowhere in a place where you actually expected them to stay on the ground and keep smoking. Then something explodes. Someone keeps screaming. The main thing is that everyone screams! But these screams are the result of that precise pissed-offness that can never become conformity. Lyrics that no self-optimizer feels comfortable with - and music like weird architecture that you can't look past.

Hysteresis

In Hysterese's 2021 album, their sound shifts from staccato-heavy punk to more atmospheric post-punk and alternative rock. The familiar twin lead vocals become less dominant, while Helen steps more to the fore. The lyrics deal with dark and melancholic themes, mixed with anger and strength. The band mixes the new sound with echoes of The Wipers, Descendents, Blondie and Billy Idol.

The 350 gang

One (Bene) handles the sounds, the other (Nik) the vocals and performance. The arrangement is reminiscent of DAF, as are the minimalist and catchy songs. With their dystopian pop, the Gang 350 clear everything away. Not a minute of standstill... One of the discoveries of the year for me. - Linus Volkmann
