In Tolstoy's monumental work, the great philosophical questions and historical events are reflected in the fate of individual people in Russia in the middle of the 19th century. The novel formulates a world view that sees history not only as a causal chain, but also emphasizes its influence on the lives of each individual. The sketchy approach to this historical epic about the fate of three aristocratic families at the time of the Napoleonic Wars deals not only with the questions of how power-political interests combine with private dreams of happiness, love and life, but also with the emancipation of the women of the time to become self-confident, active figures in a world full of change and upheaval. The director and ensemble struggle to find an artistic expression for worldwide war situations. Between frontline battles and salon gossip, between marriage and camp beds, the production searches for humanity in inhuman times.
