KUF: With keyboards, double bass and drums, Tom Schneider, Valentin Link and Hendrik Havekost create a sound that is simultaneously warm, attractive, exciting and completely alien. The rhythm section is peppered with references to dirty funk and pumping R&B, but the grooves clearly belong to the modern era: club-centric, breathtakingly interactive and, in the best places, dissected by breaks.

Over the course of four albums, the Berlin trio has pioneered an astonishing reversal of the usual electronic band concept. Where others simply augment beats with vocals and instruments, KUF create a real-time interaction with double bass, drums and keyboards using deconstructed voice samples. The vocal elements are played like an instrument in real time by keyboardist Tom Schneider and bent with virtuosity. Live, it sounds as if the full potential of a sampler is being exploited by hand on stage for the first time.

KUF have gained the freedom to put everything back together again and again. Rough soul, extremely catchy songs without actual lyrics, interwoven with improvisational outbursts and characterized by the raw aesthetics of MPC-based cut-up techno.

ROLROLROL is the project of producer Jameszoo and jazz and electronic musician Niels Broos. The two have already worked closely together on the production of Jameszoo's three albums on Brainfeeder and Niels Broos' two EPs on Alpha Pup. This resulted in their first joint album in 2023. Simply called "Music", it is an album with music about music and as such a colorful journey through sounds, between pop, modern jazz and electronica. The lively songs are reminiscent of the flashing lights and powerful sound chips of long-gone arcades, but between poppy vocoder strumming and funky bit-crush bass lies a sensitive layer of ambient-infused calm and thoughtfulness.
