About the exhibition in the bunker

DEMARKATION: Auschwitz, Buchenwald, Verdun - photographic works in the timeless now by Stephan Kaluza

With DEMARKATION, the Bilker Bunker is showing predominantly large-format photographic works by the artist Stephan Kaluza. At first glance, they appear to be one thing: unagitatedly beautiful. But with further information - the reference to the place where the photographs were taken - and the former bunker as the exhibition venue, their ambiguity becomes apparent. What is ultimately illustrated is society's approach to time, memory and forgetting.
The photographs show places of human catastrophe: Auschwitz, Buchenwald, Verdun, among others. At first glance, the landscapes appear peaceful and insignificant. But the titles reveal the most difficult history.
This is precisely where the exhibition comes in: It addresses the relationship between image, meaning and memory. How do we look back today when places no longer bear any visible traces? And what future do we want to shape from this?

Catherine Danger - live
Illbient-infused electronics & slow psychedelic waves

Catherine Danger experiments with the alienation and modification of a wide variety of electronically generated and sample-based textures, which she fuses with percussive fragments to create an independent reinterpretation of the illbient genre. The resulting soundscapes are imbued with a subtle emotionality that continues in fragmented samples, muffled bass and alienated voices.

Most recently, she released the EP Roto Rites Dub on the Simple Music Experience label. In 2018, she founded the audiovisual label 2files4free with Daya Hallé, which focuses on the combination of sound and image production and brings together a variety of artists, hybrid projects and experiments.

Industrial, Dub, Downtempo

Axel Larsen is one of the many projects of French musician Alexandre Larcier. He is a member of the artist collective Around Function, part of the band Parasite Jazz and co-founder of the French label Simple Music Experience.
As Axel Larsen, he creates a contemporary industrial dub sound using discarded technology, self-built electronic sound generators, 4-track tape recorders and numerous effects devices: a concentrate of foggy atmospheres, alienated samples, heavy bass and abstract melodies on a framework of downtempo rhythms.
