To mark International Women's Day, we are looking at a selection of works by over 100 women photographers from the holdings of the ZI Photothek. We ask about authorship, clients and working conditions: Who photographed what? Under what political and ideological conditions, what technical circumstances? Where are the boundaries between documentary and artistic photography? From assistants to photographing art historians to photographers with their own studios - names such as Lala Aufsberg, Lottlisa Behling, Hilde Lotz-Bauer or Marianne Prause show the diversity of female image and knowledge production in art history.
