Kunstsafari: Fluxus bis Punk, die Ratinger Straße

To this day, Ratinger Strasse is more than just a synonym for art and music history:

It is a way of life. In the immediate vicinity (Kunstakademie | Neubrückenstraße | Kunsthalle | Mutter-Ey-Str | Andreasstraße | Burgplatz) of a maximum radius of two kilometers, it was / is still shaped by the artists of the Kunstakademie. In the 60s/70s, these were artist groups and movements such as Zero, Fluxus and Happening. At the end of the 70s, the punk and music scene from Ratinger Hof was added. To this day, it is still the professors and/or students of the academy or just us.

As always, people - by which I mean the real Düsseldorfers - still meet up on Ratinger Straße. We have our own unspoken times. We know them and meet up, and life often takes place outside on the sidewalks and the street. But the Uel, the Goldene Einhorn or the Ohme Jupp are also popular places to go.

The punk and happening scene has made "the Ratingers", as we Düsseldorfers affectionately call them, the talk of the town. But it stands for so much more than that: it stands for new beginnings and a very special sense of community and lifestyle.

On the safari, we will explore what Ratinger Straße is all about.

Route and duration

From the Kunstakademie we walk towards the Kunsthalle via Burgplatz to Ratinger Hof.
