Kurator*innenführung: Grünzeug

Tall fir trees, dense mangroves, bizarre pistils - the plant world produces unique forms. Embedded in complex and highly sensitive ecosystems, plants are intertwined with human culture in many different ways. Looking at them can be calming, thought-provoking or trigger strong feelings such as anxiety and fear. In photography, plants have been popular subjects of photographic processes and experiments since the beginning of the 19th century.

"Green stuff. Plants in Contemporary Photography" takes up this multifaceted theme. It presents contemporary works, mainly from the Photographic Collection, which deal with the often ambivalent relationship between people and plants in the medium of photography. The exhibition encourages visitors to incorporate personal feelings when looking at the world of plants, to sensitize their own ecological awareness and to perceive nature and culture as a unity.
