La Base

The protagonists in Vadim Dumesh's film spend a large part of their time in "La Base", the central cab center at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris. They wait there for rides, many of them for their entire working lives. The concreted area in the wasteland next to the airport is a living space that has grown over the years, where mostly migrant communities from the Maghreb, sub-Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe and Asia come together to share food, music, their worries, experiences and useful knowledge. But the future, namely AI-based transportation, is already casting its shadow, not least on their own existence. Filmmaker Vadim Dumesh and the drivers' cell phone cameras capture this almost dystopian place.
