A look into the plenary chamber, guided tours and a smartphone tour: state parliament opens on Sunday

The state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia is opening for its "home game in parliament" in June to coincide with the European Football Championship. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., citizens can take a look inside the plenary chamber and the parliamentary group and committee rooms and explore the building on guided tours. There will be information on the topics of state politics, how Parliament works, the Presidium and the MPs. Visits are free of charge and can be arranged spontaneously without prior registration. Parliament can also be discovered via smartphone.

The President of the state parliament, André Kuper, emphasizes: "The state parliament is the center of democracy in North Rhine-Westphalia. People come together here. The whole of Europe is looking to Germany and our federal state during these weeks. Twenty of the 51 European Championship matches are being held here. We look forward to welcoming many guests to North Rhine-Westphalia and invite you to experience democracy in the state parliament, the home of citizens."

The sculpture "Angel of Cultures - Peace Column for Jerusalem" can currently be seen on the forecourt of the state parliament. It is part of a project to promote intercultural and interreligious dialog. In many German cities and communities, the "Angel of Cultures" is embedded in the ground as an inlay. With the cross, the crescent and the Star of David, it shows the symbols of Christianity, Islam and Judaism and stands for what unites the three world religions. An exhibition in the state parliament shows other objects from the art campaign and provides information about the project, the participants and prominent stations.
