Luis, an Asháninka, lives in isolation with his family in the Amazon jungle, far away from the technological world. He waits longingly for a message from one of his three sons, who moved to the city years ago. When his youngest son, who still lives with him, asks him what keeps him alive, a magical journey begins for both of them. Luis tries to pass on his world view and knowledge to his offspring, teaching him to recognize the sounds of the rainforest and to identify and use plants correctly.

LAS MUERTES DE CHANTYORINTI is a meditation on identity, community and spirituality that introduces the audience to a world in which the boundaries between time and space, life and death, the visible and the invisible become blurred. Hermes Paralluelo portrays this culture with due respect and creates an impressive composition about an indigenous community whose traditions are threatened with extinction.

As a supporting film, we are showing NIDO DE COCODRILO: In the tropical hall of Düsseldorf Zoo, a woman talks to an animal keeper. While watching crocodiles and being watched by them, they talk about family memories with reptiles in Colombia, ghosts and the history of the zoo.
