Wolfgang Benz in conversation with Ernst Piper
Ernst Toller wrote "A Youth in Germany" in exile in Switzerland and completed the autobiographical portrait on the day of the Nazi book burning in May 1933. As a 26-year-old student, he commanded the "Red Army" of the Munich Soviet Republic in 1919 and was punished with five years in prison. He was one of the most important authors of the Weimar Republic. Ernst Piper has republished the book and contributed documents to the biography and an essay. In conversation with Wolfgang Benz, he remembers the socialist who had to flee from Hitler.
