Lecture „Axel Rössler und Freund:innen: Lobo-Texas”

In the organizer's words:

Lobo: a lonely, long-abandoned little ghost town in the West Texas desert, about two hours' drive from El Paso. In the middle of nowhere, there are five houses on the verge of decay, a former motel (with a kidney-shaped pool), a former gas station and otherwise mainly desert wind, prickly plants and rattlesnakes.

So why did several Frankfurt residents buy land on this site in 2001? A spontaneous idea gave rise to a collective project that over the years repeatedly provided an opportunity for gatherings, music, film and art.

Annette Gloser, one of the defining figures of Frankfurt's off-scene since the 1990s, was also involved. As a pioneer in the creation of unconventional, temporary spaces, she continues to develop formats in which people meet and art is created beyond institutional structures. In the exhibition Hidden History, she is represented with the expansive installation Sierretta Nevada in the foyer of the Frankfurter Kunstverein.

Between improvisation, friendship and the constant interaction with decay and nature, Lobo has developed into a place that exemplifies precisely these forms of collective, self-organized practice.

In the lecture, artist and graphic designer Axel Rössler and companions will talk about the history of Lobo - from the first ideas in Frankfurt bars to the projects in the Texan desert.

Admission: €5 incl. visit to the exhibition. Registration is not necessary.
