LEIPZIG | One Day Choir | I Wanna Dance With Somebody
In the organizer's words:
We are thrilled to host the next One Day Choir in Leipzig.
WHAT IS A ONE-DAY CHOIR?
A One-Day Choir offers the opportunity to be part of a choir for a single day—we celebrate singing and the unifying power of harmonies. It’s a chance to build community, make new friends, and bring our diverse voices together into a single sound.
Everyone is welcome. No prior experience required. No concert. No need for perfection.
Whether you’ve been singing in vocal ensembles for many years or are singing in a group for the first time, you’re welcome here. All levels of experience are valuable and will be taken into account.
OUR SONG THIS TIME
We’ll be singing “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” by Whitney Houston —a song about the pure joy of closeness and simply throwing yourself into life. In the choir, it becomes a sound that gets everyone dancing when, at the end, many voices sing out all their emotions as if at a big party.
LEARNING THE SONG
Sheet music and vocal tracks for each part will be available before the event as study materials. If you have the time and interest, feel free to take a look and listen to the vocal tracks and the original song so we can work on the music together on the day of the event. It’s not at all necessary to know everything by heart, but the more confident we are with our parts, the more fun we can have together.
LED AND GUIDED BY:
This session will be led by our choir directors Diana Labrenz (she/her) and Elmar Kühn (he/him)!
Diana Labrenz (she/her) is a singer, choir director, and vocal coach in Leipzig. She studied jazz and popular singing at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theater in Leipzig, was a member of the Leipzig a cappella group VOXID, and has appeared on stage in, among other productions, “King Ubu / Ubu’s Trial” and “Luna Luna” at the Schauspiel Leipzig. She regularly works with various choirs and vocal ensembles and, among other projects, also directs Young Voices Brandenburg and the Westklang Choir from Leipzig.
In addition to her artistic work as a singer with the band Jamtonic, she passionately shares her experience through vocal coaching and choral conducting. In her work, she combines the fundamentals of vocal technique with expression, presence, and the joy of making music together.
She loves creating spaces where people, regardless of their prior experience, can discover their voices and share musical moments together. This makes her all the more excited to lead One-Day Choir events and bring people together through the power of singing as a group.
Elmar Kühn (he/him) is a singer, beatboxer, loop station artist, and choir director for several pop choirs in Leipzig. He also teaches music at an independent school. For him, the human voice in all its facets is a magical means of expression—especially polyphonic singing, which he experiences as something unifying and powerful. With creative ideas and plenty of enthusiasm, Elmar knows how to create spaces where singing together fosters joy, community, and musical energy. In addition to his musical work, Elmar also performs on stage as a stand-up comedian. He is very much looking forward to leading several One-Day Choir events this year with many people who love to sing.

THE MISSION OF THE ONE DAY CHOIR COLLECTIVE
The One Day Choir Collective is a creative, Germany-wide community of people who love to sing. Our mission is to create connecting, playful, and accessible spaces for making music together—spaces for expression, growth, freedom, and letting go through music. Spaces where we explore the healing potential of collective music and improvisation. Spaces where people can express themselves freely—without judgment or expectation—and where we can meet others as our authentic selves and form new friendships.
Everyone is welcome in this community.
We celebrate people of all ages, all backgrounds, all genders, all sexual orientations, all religions, all physical abilities, all social backgrounds, all languages, and all musical skill levels. All we ask of you is an open mind, a desire to connect—and a willingness to leave any form of (self-)judgment at the door.
We believe that making music—especially together with others—is a fundamental human practice. This project creates space for exactly that—especially at a time when such opportunities have become rare.
The One Day Choir Collective aims to break down the barrier between audience and artists and create experiences where we are all part of the musical process. We want to provide a network and a platform for people to rediscover themselves musically, connect with one another, and unleash their creativity through play and collaboration.
In short:
We’re here to sing, play, connect, grow—and have fun!
