She is one of the greatest voices in the Arabic-speaking world with close ties to Kampnagel: for the fourth time in 10 years, Lena Chamamyan is performing in the large K6 hall to build bridges between the Middle East and the West. The Syrian-Armenian singer, who composes and produces her own songs, interweaves Arabic maqam tradition with Armenian songs and Western jazz to create contemporary world music. Born in Damascus and trained there as a dramatic soprano at the University of Music, Chamamyan has revitalized Syrian, Armenian and Bahraini folk music with modern arrangements on several albums since 2016 and shaped contemporary Arabic pop with her own songs. Her voice expresses both nostalgia and new beginnings - Chamamyan is archive and present in one and will once again prove that she can make entire halls sing along live, accompanied by her west-eastern chamber ensemble.
