Lesesalon am Montag

In the organizer's words:

As a result of the series of events "Places of 'Euthanasia'" organized by the Naturefriends Youth Leipzig, we came up with the following idea: We would like to start a small reading salon! Our aim is to better understand and classify current political developments.

The attitude of valuing human life according to performance and usefulness is not new, but is increasingly present in everyday political discourse. As is the staging of everything "other" as threatening and hostile. Unlike 80, 90 or 100 years ago, many more people are politically present, involved and informed as a result of social and technological developments.

We want to explore the following questions: How did these attitudes emerge, how did they become socially acceptable and capable of gaining majority support? How can a contradictory position that respects human dignity and is geared towards solidarity and participation be formulated - and also communicated to the outside world? And what can a political practice look like that enables participation and still remains precise and biting?

The starting point for this will be the book "The New Fascist Body" by Dagmar Herzog. Together, we will select other, more recent publications that seem helpful in answering our questions.

The reading salon will be participatory. We will read a jointly agreed section of text at each meeting. We are more interested in sharing ideas than in reading overly complex academic texts. Previous knowledge or academic training is explicitly not necessary. We meet every 14 days in the media.lab in WERK 2 at Connewitzer Kreuz. The meeting point is always at 6 p.m. at the main entrance to WERK 2, starting on 12.01.2026 (subsequent dates: 26.01., 09.02., 23.02. etc.).
