"Self-portrait with Bonaparte":

Ever since she met him, he has dominated her life. Time and again she has to come to terms with the fact that he has disappeared from the scene. Now Bonaparte, notorious gambler and her lover, is apparently gone for good. She persists in thinking about this love and what connected her to him. As she photographs East German landscapes, she remembers. Did their love story end when they went to the casino together?

"Wild after a wild dream":

A woman meets a man far from home, a Catalan and a writer, and has an affair with him. This love shakes everything up - not only her relationship with her husband, but also her view of things, her work. What she experiences causes her to make a decision that is fraught with risk: to be completely with herself and to live as a writer in the future. But can someone who is completely with themselves still be with others? With a husband, with children? Years later, she is once again at a tipping point in her life and meets the Catalan again: an arc closes between the past and the present. Julia Schoch crowns her extraordinary trilogy with this novel about a momentous encounter.

Julia Schoch, born in 1974, is regarded as a "virtuoso of memory storytelling" (FAZ). Most recently, she published the novels 'Das Vorkommnis', 'Das Liebespaar des Jahrhunderts' and 'Wild nach einem wilden Traum' as the three books in her acclaimed trilogy 'Biographie einer Frau'. In 2022, she was awarded the honorary award of the German Schiller Foundation, in 2023 the Schubart Literature Prize of the City of Aalen, and in 2024 the Mainz City Writer's Literature Prize. In 2025, she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit. She lives in Potsdam.
