With old sails on new courses
The traditional sailing ship Brigg Roald Amundsen takes four weeks to cross the Atlantic. On board: 47 women aged between 19 and 67.
Jessica Benjatschek kept hearing that it would be exhausting, "with so many women in such a confined space for so long". But she is not deterred, gets on board and realizes that the opposite is true.
Female empowerment in the middle of the Atlantic
The dynamic in each of the three watch groups is appreciative and open. There is room here for big issues that are repressed in everyday life. Jessica learns to tell the many ropes apart, sees luminous plankton, flying fish, dolphins and a minke whale, takes on the role of captain for a day, climbs the jib boom and swims in the open sea.
Emotionally described outer and inner journey
At sea, the journalist grows beyond herself. She learns to stand up for herself and her initial fear soon turns into self-confidence.
