He has been reporting on the USA for 30 years and followed Donald Trump's rise as a correspondent in Washington from 2013 to 2017. His revelation (together with colleagues) that the NSA had tapped Angela Merkel's cell phone triggered a serious crisis in German-American relations. In 2014, Stark was voted "Journalist of the Year". He has won the Henri Nannen Prize three times and the German Reporter Prize four times. His books Public Enemy Wikileaks and The NSA Complex were SPIEGEL bestsellers.
