Mono & Nikitaman are celebrating their twentieth anniversary this year. What better way to do so than at the opening concert of Lieblingsplatte vol. 7?
However, there is one fly in the ointment: the group recently announced that their project would be put on ice at the end of the year. So for the time being, there will be no live shows or releases from the duo. The very last chance to see the dancehall institution live in NRW will be at the zakk. A first show at the end of December has been sold out for a long time, and so we were able to persuade Mono & Nikitaman to perform their most successful album "Guten Morgen es brennt" as part of our festival! Monika Jaksch aka Mono and Nick Tilstra aka Nikitaman met in Italy when they were touring with their own music projects in the early noughties. Their first joint track "M&N" was released in 2002 on Nikitaman's EP "Ahh...Loco...". The duo's debut album "Das Spiel beginnt" followed two years later. In the years that followed, Mono & Nikitaman established their reputation as an outstanding live act and have released a total of seven albums to date. Their most successful longplayer "Guten Morgen Es Brennt" was released five years ago, containing hits such as "Gib mir ein bisschen Sommer", "Kein Weed" and "Hitler muss immer wieder sterben". The group's statement from the latter song is clear: "Where do we want to go, what's it going to be / And I thought we'd learn from history / We see how fronts harden and realize / Hitler must probably die again and again". Mono & Nikitaman show a clear political edge against the shift to the right in our society and have been socially and politically active for years. They are sponsors of the "Schule ohne Rassismus - Schule mit Courage" project at Hannah-Arendt-Gymnasium in Haßloch and support projects such as Sea-Watch, Viva con Aqua and Sea Punks e.V.. Mono & Nikitaman are part of an artist scene in our country that critically observes and comments on current political developments, and the album "Guten Morgen Es Brennt" features like-minded people such as Mal Élevé from Irie Revoltés, ZSK, Miwata and Sookee. So if you want to experience one more of the dancehall duo's stunning concerts with their live band and celebrate both the band's anniversary and their provisional farewell with Mono & Nikitaman, you can do so at the opening concert of the seven Lieblingsplatte Festival!
