Like a river runs through us

In the organizer's words:

How is class reflected in bodies? In their work, the HomePlus Ensemble draws attention to the lives of first-generation Korean immigrant women, especially those who came to West Germany as nurses in 1960 and 1970 and worked under guest worker contracts.
The performance interweaves personal stories and history, oral tradition, dances and songs.
The group of retired nurses have been dancing together in Berlin for four decades. Their dance serves as a form of solidarity and resilience amidst the challenges of tireless nursing work. The four amateur dancers share autobiographical stories of assimilation, marginalization and isolation due to language, cultural and class barriers.
In the intimate one-to-one experience, the audience sits alongside the performers and becomes listeners and witnesses - questioning the dominant Western narratives in contemporary art and exposing the inherent classism of the art scene.
