From the stage, Liz Santoro tells her life story through dance: her childhood, ballet, New York, Paris, motherhood and the works she developed together with Pierre Godard. But here, truth cannot be clearly separated from fiction: Some memories are real, others were generated by artificial intelligence. Some movements come from her body, others from an algorithm that was trained with her dance.
This Is Unreal creates a hybrid world in which the authentic and the synthetic permeate each other. The music glides from romantic piano to algorithmic variations and pop. It is an autobiographical pact that gets out of hand - an autofiction in the age of deepfakes, a dizzying and unsettling game. Where does the body end? Where does the machine begin? And what if this very indeterminacy defines us today?

Pierre Godard is a performance artist with a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Paris-Saclay. With a background in applied mathematics and speech engineering, his research has focused on unsupervised word finding and computerized speech documentation. Together with choreographer Liz Santoro, he develops performances that explore the intersection between dance, technology and AI and push the boundaries of contemporary performance art. Liz Santoro is a choreographer and dancer with a background in neuroscience from Harvard University and professional training at Boston Ballet School. In addition to her choreographic work, Santoro's artistic practice includes extensive educational engagement through curation, teaching, outreach and mentoring.
