In our new event series "Longings and Belongings - On Longings and Belongings", we want to hear, see, discuss and make plural, multi-layered and intersectional realities tangible. Between the worlds: Return to the common sound

Concert with Cemîl Qoçgîrî (tenbûr) / Nurê Dilovanî (violin) / Beate Wolff (cello) - on January 16, 2026 at 8 pm - Schauspielhaus, Unterhaus

In his music, Cemîl Qoçgîrî searches for the origin of sound, for an inner home beyond borders. With tenbûr, violoncello and violin, he creates a subtle dialog between past and present, between East and West, between memory and the present. This music tells of longing and belonging, of loss and return, and leads us back to what holds us together: the shared sound of connection. Cemîl Qoçgîrî's instrument is the tenbûr, a long-necked lute with only three strings. In his playing, he builds bridges between tradition and modernity. With his idiosyncratic playing technique, he emphasizes the quiet tones without remaining silent, always setting accents and searching for new worlds of sound. Most recently, he took over the artistic direction of the Tenbûr concert "return to the essence" in the Cologne Philharmonie. "Longings and Belongings - Über Sehnsüchte und Zugehörigkeiten" is an ongoing series in our Diversity department and is regularly continued with different focal points.
