A unique experience between dance, technology and virtual fantasy: Lu Yang creates a dizzying neon world between Chinese mythology, sci-fi and hyperpop. The legendary dancer and choreographer Louise Lecavalier performs live on the big stage of tanzhaus nrw and uses motion capture technology to transform her body into fantastic digital avatars - from mutated manga creatures to cybernetic deities. The visual effects and camera movements within the virtual world are controlled live with a game controller, accompanied by a dark and dense trap soundtrack by GameFace.
Lu Yang's live motion capture performance has already been realized with various dancers in different contexts. The version presented by tanzhaus nrw was developed together with dancer and choreographer Louise Lecavalier for the 6th International Biennale of Digital Art in Montreal in 2023. Delusional World is part of a series of live motion capture performances by Lu Yang that transpose ideas of Buddhist reincarnation (saṃsāra) and mutation into virtual environments. Lu Yang incorporates her own body into her creations, staging a multiplicity - the constant multiplication, dissolution or disintegration of bodies. Dance plays a major role in this.

Lu Yang lives and works in Shanghai and Tokyo and is one of the most exciting positions in contemporary art internationally. His artistic work includes 3D animated films, game installations, holograms, graphic works and virtual reality. The works combine manga, science fiction and club culture with neuroscience, biotechnology and Buddhist thought. In Düsseldorf, works by Lu Yang have already been shown in the exhibitions Worldbuilding. Gaming and Art in the Digital Age at the Julia Stoschek Foundation and Superheroes at the NRW-Forum. Having become famous in the 80s as the protagonist of La La La Human Steps, Louise Lecavalier develops solos for herself, all of which have been premiered at tanzhaus nrw.
