Maali: Moderne deutsch-kenianische R&B-Afrobeats

The 24-year-old German artist MAALI, with Kenyan and Bosnian roots, draws her inspiration from her diverse cultural background and her vibrant personality. The musician, who has been nominated several times as best newcomer, embodies self-determination and empowerment in her intimate German and English-language lyrics. They provide insights into her everyday life as a black woman in a white majority society and her life in Nairobi and Sarajevo. She combines the self-confidence of Beyoncé with the Afrobeats sound of Burna Boy. As a black German artist, she wants to use her songs to show marginalized people that they are not alone and that they are understood.

Through her collaboration with producers from Nairobi, Afro-pop artists such as Benzema, DJane Pierra Makenna and the German producer and jazz pianist Fruity Finn, MAALI's tracks always seem like something completely new.
