August Macke's life and work are closely linked to the district around Bornheimer Strasse

This part of Bonn's Nordstadt district, which was "extremely dear" to August Macke, now bears the name of the popular artist.

August Macke captured scenes from his neighborhood in more than 100 works.

In the immediate vicinity of the August Macke House, many fine arts institutions such as the Bonner Kunstverein, gkg, Künstlerforum, Kreuzung an St. Helena, Kult41, Fabrik45) artists and galleries such as Raum für Kunst und Natur and Kunstraum21 have settled in recent years, as have socio-cultural venues such as the neighborhood management, Wahlverwandtschaften, Bücherei St. Marien and many more that contribute to the creative and exciting environment in the August Macke Quarter.

Under the motto "Art and culture in the Macke Quarter", the Macke Quarter Festival takes place every year in Nordstadt! Art and cultural institutions around the Macke House and Bornheimer Strasse take part with exhibitions, guided tours, lectures and workshops and celebrate the artistic past, present and future of the district. It is important to us to make art and culture accessible to everyone.
