Mad Foxes & Die Jugend von Gestern

In the organizer's words:

MAD FOXES

tenderness @ Friday Night Music Club

Post Punk * Heavy Grunge * Groovy Noise

Urgency, tension and an incredibly organic energy: the music of MAD FOXES plows a path between pain, beauty and self-destruction. The raw intensity of the trio from Nantes / France finds its strength especially on stage.

After the explosive previous album ASHAMED and impressive appearances on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show and KEXP, the lovers of Shame, Metz & Fontaines D.C. are developing new sounds and complementing their dazzling post-punk on their third album INNER BATTLES with an astonishing meeting of noise and pop: punk and 1980s kitsch are daringly married, as if Elton John was about to embark on an affair with Joe Talbot. The coveted sound engineers Joris Saïdani (BOPS, Simone d'Opale, Middle Child) and Thibault Chaumont (Igorrr, Lana Del Rey, It It Anita) are responsible for the sound.

Listeners also witness a highly intimate, introspective process here: mastermind Christophe Hogommat (who recorded the album all by himself) shares existential struggles and deep, chaotic feelings, while at the same time hopefully searching for ways to emerge from the inner struggle and let light shine. This continues on the current EP tenderness: three tracks - this time recorded by all of them under live conditions without an audience - demonstrate the range of the MAD FOXES from rocking and melancholic to brutal, like a rage against the world, to dark and down, but with the clarity and will to get up again.

After their famous trip to the USA, big festivals with five-digit attendance figures (CabaretVert'22, MagnifiqueSociety'22) and sold-out headliner shows in France (LaMaroquinerie/Paris'24, Stereolux/Nantes'24) as well as several other gigs (Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal), the MAD FOXES are now going back to the roots...

THE YOUTH OF YESTERDAY

Postmodern Emo Rock * Indie Noise Pop * Post Punk

Yesterday's youth is not cool, at least not always. They deal with crises emotionally and intensively - privately, politically, sometimes romantically: hard feelings, soft people. Irritating.

Musically, the Ruhr city duo from Dortmund has been creating a hypnotizing mixture of sophisticated guitar playing and dreamlike, strangely interwoven lyrics since 2020. DIE JUGEND VON GESTERN are shaking up the indie scene and are reminiscent of greats like Sonic Youth or Pixies, but also bands like Friends of Gas, Muff Potter or Culk. Between unadorned noise/post-punk guitar figures, they always manage to create great pop moments. Now also via my favorite chords on their self titled debut album.
