Under the guidance of renowned artistZin Lim(Master of Fine Arts, Academy of Art University, San Francisco), you’ll explore expressive alla prima portrait techniques. Leave detail-oriented approaches behind and learn to create vibrant portraits full of emotion and character.

The workshop will be held in English with German translation.

July 17–19 (Fri–Sun), 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.

7 hours per day (including a 1-hour lunch break) — 6 effective instructional hours daily, for a total of 18 hours.
 

What to Expect

Develop a solid understanding of portraiture: from structure, proportion, and gesture to the deliberate use of light and shadow. Together, we’ll work on precise tonal control, dynamic brushwork, and your individual composition. Step by step, you’ll create three expressive portraits based on photographic references that combine depth and emotion.

• Day 1: Classical portrait fundamentals with a fresh, modern approach.
• Day 2: Impressionist color perception, lighting, and texture.
• Day 3: Emotional expression through powerful, expressionistic brushwork.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll confidently create dynamic portraits that captivate with their clear structure, expressive brushwork, and your very own personal style.

About Zin Lim

Zin Lim is an internationally acclaimed Korean artist and instructor, known for his “Hybrid Figuration”—a powerful fusion of realism, impressionism, and expressionism. As a longtime faculty member at the Academy of Art University, he has led over 100 workshops worldwide and is known for his dynamic teaching style, which helps artists develop their authentic creative voice.
