Manfred Krug (1937-2016) was one of the few stars in the GDR. Whether as an actor, jazz singer or entertainer: with his unconventional manner and inimitable charm, he inspired an audience of millions. His films such as Beschreibung eines Sommers (1963) and Spur der Steine (1966) now occupy an important place in German film history. Even more than the actor, however, people revered the singer, who interpreted his own lyrics with his raspy baritone, in which they found themselves.
After moving to West Germany in 1977, he soon became an audience favorite, whether as a truck driver in Auf Achse (1978-1993), as a lawyer in the series Liebling Kreuzberg (1986-1998) written by his friend Jurek Becker or as a Tatort detective(1984-2001). On the occasion of the opening of the Manfred Krug Archive, the great artist will be remembered with talks, film excerpts, readings and singing.
