In the organizer's words:
The association Projekt Freiraum emerged from a citizens' initiative, the Krempelmarktkomitee, which has been organizing the Mannheim Krempelmarkt since 1970.
The concept of the market is deliberately not aimed at maximizing profits and the stall fees are kept low.
After deducting all costs, the surpluses generated from the stall fee are donated to social, ecological and culturally meaningful projects in the Rhine-Neckar region for a specific purpose.
