Sir Wilfrid, recently recovered from a heart attack, has to defend a seemingly hopeless case in court: Leonard Vole is accused of murdering a wealthy widow. Even though Vole maintains his innocence, everything speaks against him - including, to Sir Wilfrid's surprise, Vole's German-born wife Christine, who is called as a witness by the prosecution and refutes Vole's alibi during the interrogation. The defense attorney then receives a bundle of letters that destroy Christine's credibility...
One of the best courtroom films - indeed, one of the most entertaining films ever! Billy Wilder directs a cleverly staged thriller of deception and role-playing together with a superb ensemble cast. A classic!
