Marty (Timothée Chalamet), a shoe salesman, has only one goal in life: to become the world champion in table tennis and thus join the pantheon of celebrated athletes, among whom he has long considered himself to be. To compete in a tournament in London, the young New Yorker puts all his eggs in one basket, but in the nerve-wracking final, he is defeated by Japanese sports star Endo. But that’s just the beginning of the odyssey of a man who’s willing to risk everything for fame and success. Because for his uncle’s small shoe store, Marty’s dream is definitely a few sizes too big.
