In the gigantic future city of Metropolis, the rich live in the splendor of the upper city, while deep underground the workers toil tirelessly on the machines. When Freder, the city leader's son, discovers the harsh reality of the underworld, he falls in love with the courageous Maria.

She dreams of a world in which heart and mind come together - workers and rulers united. But a scientist creates a deceptively real machine-man who takes Maria's place and sparks an uprising.

With its impressive images and timeless message about power, humanity and the dangers of blind faith in technology, Metropolis remains a milestone in film history to this day.

Björn Jentsch accompanies Metropolis live on the piano and with a variety of other instruments - from flutes and melodica to percussion. With over twenty years of experience as a composer for silent film and theater, he creates a unique sound experience that brings image and music into an intense dialogue. His music combines classical motifs with modern sound experiments, incorporating elements of jazz, electronics and film music to create a captivating, multi-layered world of sound.

Jentsch's individual way of playing turns the film into a lively sound spectacle that makes Fritz Lang's visionary visual language tangible in a new way.
