Hollywood Noir

Michael Dressel was born in 1958 in the East Berlin district of Friedrichshain. In 1981, he was caught trying to leave the workers' and farmers' paradise on his own initiative. He sees the two years in prison that this earned him as the most important years of his life. During this time, he was taught everything he needed to know about the individual and society at first hand. Thus equipped for the rest of his life, he ended up in West Berlin in 1984 and shortly afterwards in Los Angeles, where he still lives today and has spent the last 30 years earning his living as a sound editor on major Hollywood film productions alongside his work as a photographer.

He is a member of the Oscar Academy. For many years he has been photographically documenting the light and dark sides of Hollywood and other places. His pictures show a real Hollywood beyond the illusions exported to the world by the dream factory.
