Michelle's seventh album - "It Was the Moment" - will not disappoint those waiting for a new soundtrack for their darkness and melancholy. It might even be her most vulnerable and expressive work to date, which is not surprising given that it was written and produced during a time of grief and emotional instability. A new level of emotional commitment is evident in these songs, confirming her place in the tradition of dramatic chansonniers. Themes include the fatalistic surrender to passion, the transience of encounters, the loss of mother and home, the end of days and the loss of sanity in the best and worst possible way. Michelle offers up her full sonic palette here, from dark Lynchian realism to elegant humor to the queen of epic melodrama.

With regularly sold-out shows in cities such as Istanbul, Berlin, Warsaw and Athens, Michelle has established a niche that includes the Eastern European diaspora, the Berlin queer scene and those with a taste for the melodramatic ballads of Charles Aznavour, Zeki Müren and Nikolai Slichenko. While her concerts include more live elements and a range of musicians, she continues to produce and release her albums herself, maintaining an intimacy and uniqueness of expression - from her bedroom to yours. A genre based partly on elements of melody and style, but mostly on a characteristically fatalistic, celebratory approach to songwriting.
