Mini-Horror-Show. Mascha Jacobs stellt sich Bora Chung und Barbi Marković

Bora Chung and Barbi Marković - it's amazing how these two authors wield the laser swords of literary horror comedy against the rigidities of their post-war societies. One was born in South Korea in 1976, the other in Belgrade in 1980. One translates Russian and Polish literature into Korean and is a member of the "Science Fiction Writers Union of Korea", the other has lived in Vienna since 2006, where she has been touring the clubs with her Thomas Bernhard remix "Ausgehen". Hand on heart: What do Bora Chung and Barbi Marković have in common? Their sense of reality, their sparkling wit and the fact that they send their X-ray vision into all the dirty corners of the collective unconscious.
In "The Curse of the Rabbit", Bora Chung tells of a family business for the "production of ominous objects", of incestuous capitalist vampirism, of a talking head that peeks out of the toilet and shouts "Mother!". Marković's bizarre stories tell of the uncanniness of everyday life in a different but somehow similar way: how the dear relatives dig a perfectly fitting hole in the neighbor's garden for the renegade nag, and what happens when you ask about war criminals in some families. Or, also very creepy, about Ikea's kitchen planners.
The exaggerated desperation with which Bora Chung and Barbi Marković tell of the always recognizable, completely normal life, wide awake and uninhibited, is a very special literary delight and a great pleasure! Together with the two authors, podcaster and cult journalist Mascha Jacobs brings it to light.
