MISTER PARADISE

Four short dramas by Tennessee Williams

Two children on the railroad embankment between condemned houses. A woman and a man in a crummy flophouse. A poet named Paradise whose time has passed - or not yet come. In his numerous, mostly little-known one-act plays, Tennessee Williams presents a radical, atmospherically dense and uneasily topical view of reality. Every social order lies in ruins, people wander between the past, which is dying, and the new, which has not yet been born. Even the small escapes no longer succeed. It is a time that produces monsters in the flesh as well as monstrous paradises of the illusionary.

The playwright Tennessee Williams (1911-1983) became known worldwide with stage plays such as "A Streetcar Named Desire," "The Glass Menagerie," and "The Cat on the Hot Tin Roof." Together with the title piece "Mister Paradise", the FWT: brings three more of his short dramas to the stage: "The Fat Man's Wife" (both German by Inge and Gottfried Greiffenhagen), "Madame Melissengeist" (German by Jörn von Dyck) and "Zum Abriss freigegeben" (German by Wolf Christian Schröder).
